CBC stands for "complete blood count". It is also known as "full blood count". A CBC test is a set of medical laboratory tests that give information about the number and the quality of cells in one's blood. It gives you a complete profile of your blood, including red blood cells, white blood cells, blood platelets, and the concentration of hemoglobin and hematocrit. The red blood cells, that get their color from hemoglobin, tell how much oxygen your blood is carrying. The white blood cells are a part of your immune system and they are made of bone marrow. The platelets also called thrombocytes, help your blood clot. Hemoglobin is the protein molecule in your red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs and brings back carbon dioxide to be cleaned. Hematocrit is the percentage of red blood cells in your blood.
